Early 20th Century Historic Architecture and Craftsmanship
Complemented by a 21st Century Dining Experience

1902 TavernEstablished in 1902 as the Dimling Brothers Bar and Grill, our liquor license was the 8th issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and bears the certificate number R-8. The 1902 Tavern re-opened in 1982 as a historic and elegant establishment to enjoy fine foods and drinks with family and friends. By closely inspecting old photographs and records, local Pittsburgh craftsmen careful restored the original brass, wood, tile patterns, and tin ceiling from the late 19th/early 20th century. The original bar no longer existed but an authentic 19th Century bar was found in a hotel in South Fork, PA. It was purchased, dismantled, and shipped to Pittsburgh where it was refinished for the Tavern.

In 2008, the restoration and renovation of 1902 Tavern was completed for the 21st Century. For example, new art and lighting update the dining area; new color treatments and modern metals enhance the classic landmark architecture; our main dining area was expanded; a Vodka Bar and Grille Room on the main level was re-established; a private dining area and bar upstairs was created for special events; and a more comfortable lounge was created in the front of the restaurant for cocktails and conversation.
